A BCBA is a board-certified behaviour analyst. They have a Master’s degree and has completed extensive experience and passed board certification. A BCBA may or may not be a RASP-approved behaviour consultant.
A BCaBA is a board-certified assistant behaviour analyst. They have a bachelor’s degree and has completed extensive experience and passed board certification. A BCaBA may or may not be a RASP-approved behaviour consultant.
A RASP-approved BC is a behaviour consultant who has either a Master’s or Bachelor degree. Some are BCBA’s, some are BCaBA’s, while some do not hold board certification.
In our practice, we also provide consultation services from supervised behaviour consultants. They either have a Master’s or Bachelo’s degree, and receiving extensive experience, and intensive supervision from a BCBA to fulfill the RASP requirements.
Collectively, we call them behaviour consultants (BC)
All of our BC’s are eligible to use the Autism Funding either as a behaviour consultant or behaviour interventionist.
Conducts your intake
Conducts assessments with your family and child
Write the behaviour support plan
Develop specific programs or strategies
Collaborates with other service providers (e.g., SLP, OT), school, and community resources
Teach the team including BI’s and families, in using the programs and strategies
Supervises the work of BI’s
Provides support services to parents as requested
A BI is a behaviour interventionist who may have a bachelor’s degree, working towards a bachelor’s degree, or college education.
Conducts sessions with your child in your home, your child’s daycare or other placement, and/or community
Implements the strategies and programs in the sessions
Collects and records data during sessions
Receive on-going supervision from the BC’s

We bill the Autism Funding directly
We send you a copy of your invoice after every month for your review

We will fill out and submit a Justification for Equipment and Supplies form for you

ABA is a science, not an approach

ABA, the science of behaviour, has principles that can be applied to teach any behaviour
We use those principles to teach children and families various behaviours based on family’s and child’s goals
Controversy around ABA
In the past, the principles of behaviours were used to enforce compliance, conformity or surpress natural autistic traits.
Discrete Trial Training (DTT) was regularly used in the early stages of ABA. DTT and ABA have been incorrectly understood as one and the same.
Just like any science, ABA learns from the past, and undergoes constant, necessary evolution.
These days, focus has shifted from compliance-based training to empowerment.
