JOYBCI adheres to using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), the science that looks into understanding and changing human behaviour. The application of ABA principles is not exclusive to teaching individuals with ASD, but extends to all human behaviours.
Interventions based on ABA significantly enhance behaviours that are important to the individual or family. Evidence-based techniques are used and evaluated using the data collected before, during, and/or after the intervention. Effectiveness is established when skills are maintained through time and across situations.
ESDM is an early intervention approach used with very young children and remains appropriate up to the age of five. The assessment and curriculum are based on developmental stages, and teaching strategies involve the principles of ABA, naturalistic teaching, as well as the use of positive affect in joint activities.
This approach addresses areas of development including communication, social skills, imitation, cognition, play, motor skills, behaviour, and personal independence.
Our consultant has received introductory and advanced training in ESDM.
PT is a method of evaluating instructional strategies in a precise and systematic manner. In order to achieve this kind of evaluation, PT uses the Standard Celeration Charts. These curriculum-agnostic tools facilitate effective analyses of progress and allow the consultant to make appropriate, data-driven decisions. It is through this that each learner is given highly-individualized programs that address specific skill deficits in a very timely manner.
JOY uses PrecisionX, an online version of the Standard Celeration Chart that allows team members and families to view progress at any time.
PBS is a behaviour management model that uses evidence-based interventions. Functional assessment of behaviours (i.e., determining the reason/s for behaviour) is an essential first part of PBS, as strategies depend on behaviour functions.
The consultant develops the program following assessment and provides parents with multi-step training sessions and on-going support.
PBS requires data collection as a tool for effective program evaluation.
